We have named our system of body placement The Alignment Resistance Training Method.  The basis of your mechanical function is derived from the position of your spine.  If your spine is positioned in its optimal position, you have the ability to use the rest of our body correctly.  This spine position is not left up to chance but rather has to be positioned and maintained by you for everything that you do.  If your spine is positioned incorrectly, you have no ability to use your shoulders correctly.  If you happen to be attempting to play tennis or golf, your shoulders are an accident waiting to happen.  Human mechanical function is not derived by the desire to do something but rather by the proper direction given to the body.  Without this constant direction a person is basically “out of control” with everything that they do.

Your spine position and maintenance of that optimal functional position gives you the chance to use your body correctly if your body is given proper direction and your body has the physical ability to perform the given task.  Each section of your spine is dependent upon the section below for its integrity just like a totem pole.  If the spine is not “stacked up” properly, each succeeding section has to compensate for the improperly placed section below.  The illustration on the left is your optimum position and the one on the right is compensatory positioning.  Both of these spine postures are created and supported by the muscles of the body.  With the correct spine positioning you have the best chance to use your body correctly. Similar to a car having the ability to carry you down the highway safely if it is driven correctly.  Your car needs to be driven every time you get in to use it and your body is exactly the same way.  Your body has to be “driven” or directed in everything that you do.

The “out of control” lifestyle that most people live in with their body is directly responsible for most of the problems we encounter as we age.  The bad back dilemma that 80% of the population falls prey to is preventable and reversible in most people until they have surgery.  Once the back deteriorates to the point of requiring surgery, the function of the spine is changed forever.  It is imperative to maintain healthy, functional hips to support proper pelvic and spine function.  The hip joint is the most powerful joint in the human body, yet for most people they spend their life without functional hips.  The sad reality is that most people lose their hip function by the time they are 20 due to improper spine position.   Most knee and foot problems are a result of a lack of proper hip function. This lack of hip function is a precursor to back pain.
