SAETHERSBLAKKEN
2 pr. Imported Norwegian Stallion
VISIT OUR FARM
Since our original vision of Little Farm didn't include a stallion and since our little herd of hand-picked mares included three lovely greys and a rare white dun, we were done shopping for Fjords.
UNTIL fate threw us a curve in the form of the outstanding 2 premie, Norwegian bred, brown dun, 1991 stallion, Saethersblakken. He was raised in Norway where he stood as an approved stallion for many years. Then he was sold to a young man in Finland named Tarmo Puranen who bred him to his own and outside mares from his area for several years. But, since there aren’t a lot of Fjords in Finland, Tarmo felt Saethersblakken was going to waste. He had proven himself as a sire with outstanding progeny on the ground in Norway and Finland including three Norwegian approved sons standing in Europe. Puranen wanted to see the stallion go to North America where he would have the opportunity to prove himself to be the outstanding sire that he had been in Scandinavia and to contribute the Radar bloodline to a new continent. Many emails and letters later and with the help of our lovely friend and interpreter Sini Seppala-Vanhala, Saethersblakken was on his way to America.
Saethersblakken rides, drives and pulls farm draft. He was used for logging in Finland.
In Europe he competed in dressage and jumping events. He has a huge jump, capable of clearing 4 feet and he has successfully competed on 3 foot courses. He often entertains himself by free jumping obstacles in his pasture. He has a wonderful disposition, with the quiet, humorous nature for which Fjords are famous. He has remarkable presence (when you can get him to get stop eating grass) and visitors to Little Farm often comment "he just makes you want to stop and stare".
Saethersblakken's uls dun son Hermann, was the highest placed 5 year old at the 2001 Norwegian stallion evaluation. He is standing in Norway where he continues his sire's tradition of producing outstanding sons. The 2003 evaluation's top 3 year old colt was grandson Fiskarguten.
Saethersblakken's first breeding season in America has been an unqualified success. With shipped semen and AI cover we have produced 2 beautiful Blakken offspring, with another expected in September.
