At the end of my entry on 26 September I anticipated taking it easy for a while due to rain. I was wrong! By wednesday morning the forecast had changed and we had excellent walking weather for the demanding stretch from Fort Augustus to Alt Sigh. The drop down to Invermoriston and the Stone Seat at the top of the climb out of Invermoriston were the highlights of the day.
The following day Peters’ wife Carol joined us for the Alt Sigh to Drumnadrochit stretch. Carol, her sister Joan and my wife Nita had also joined us on the first couple of days of the walk up to South Laggan. Yesterday it was just Peter and I again for the section from Drumnadrochit to Abriachan which takes in the highest point of the Great Glen Way. The photo above of Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle was taken on the early stages that day. Despite the dark clouds it thankfully remained mostly dry. You can view more of the photographs I took on the walk at Photobox.
Unfortunately Peter, Carol and Joan had to get back to Essex today so we are left with the final twelve miles to Inverness to complete the next time they come up to the Highlands of Scotland. We walked just 61 miles over six days and the experience has left me full of respect for Nick Barlow who will shortly complete his walk from John O Groats to Lands End.
