An American IPA from Chico, California.

New in bottles in 2009.  Bittered with Magnum, finished with Magnum and Crystal, dry hopped with Magum, Crystal and Citra.   A nicely executed ‘extra IPA’.  At first blush, it seems pretty run-of-the-mill, until you slow down, stop reading into the hype, and try to enjoy this beer for what it is: a widely available, expertly hopped big IPA from America’s best pale ale producer.  Excellent, excellent, excellent sub $8 6pack.

Sierra Nevada is proud of its history as one of the pioneers of the craft brewing movement and has been brewing beers in Chico, California since 1981.   Founded by visionary dreamer and homebrewer Ken Grossman, the original brewery was cobbled together in 1979 using second-hand pieces of equipment.  But the result was first-rate: award winning ales were soon pouring from the upstart brewery.  Expansion after expansion followed, but the beers remained the true to the original batches, using only the best ingredients and fresh hops.
