A barleywine style ale from Chico, California.
Wow. This beer has hops. Big, bitter, flavorful, aromatic hops. And there's enough malt in here to make a case of Michelob. The bouquet is dense with Cascade and Centennial hops and a deep, fruity aroma from the yeast. The thick, sweet malt body is held in check by the enormous hop load. Great, big beer. This is one of those beers that will confound everyone who doesn't have a working knowledge of hoppy beers. Excellent barleywine, plus there's no need to cellar this one to take the edge off, it's ready to go now. Bittered with Nugget, finished with Cascade, matured in the tank with Cascade and Centennial. Awesome stuff.

Sierra Nevada is proud of its history as one of the pioneers of the craft brewing movement and has been brewing beers in Chico, California since 1981. Founded by visionary dreamer and homebrewer Ken Grossman, the original brewery was cobbled together in 1979 using second-hand pieces of equipment. But the result was first-rate: award winning ales were soon pouring from the upstart brewery. Expansion after expansion followed, but the beers remained the true to the original batches, using only the best ingredients and fresh hops.
