Bell’s Rye Stout
A stout from Comstock, Michigan.
Bells is the king of stouts here in the Midwest. They make Expedition, Double Cream Stout, the wonderful Kalamazoo Stout, Cherry Stout, Java Stout, and now in bottles comes the Rye Stout. Dark brown in color, with a short-lived head, lively fizzy carbonation, and a characteristic dry rye bite. Roasted malts and low hop aroma come toward the end, but the focus is on the rye. Eminently quaffable beer.
