Thank you for entering the 2008 BCF Veterans National Road Race. The Sportscover Spiuk JE James RT are committed not only to winning events, but also promoting them. As a team we are now in our second year and have developed the team with a successful mix of seasoned and emerging talent which is race proven in the UK and internationally, with several national medals to show for the hard work of the riders.

Naturally we have increased our efforts within race promotion after several local regional events, this race is our first National Championship promotion, which I believe will see some fantastic racing. Some of you may have ridden the circuit in the past, which is used in the Petes Race. The 15 mile loop takes in a combination of roads which doesn’t particularly favour one riding styles always gives a deserved winner.

All races rely heavily on the help and support of the race officials and marshals who give up their time to ensure the event runs smoothly. I would like to thank all those who have helped plan and support the race along with the sponsors who have made not only this race but also the Sportscover Spiuk JE James racing team possible.

THE COURSE

Take care after the start finish area when you pass through Ackworth, there are a series of sharp bends with double white lines. You are racing on open roads and commissaires have been advised to immediately disqualify any riders who ride on the wrong side of the road.

Another sharp bend on a blind spot is after the South Elmsall roundabout where you will descend before a left then right hand turn. Take care! At the top of next drag you will turn left onto the Roman road back into Pontefract, where there are a number of pot holes in the road. They are due to be repaired but I cannot guarantee this will happen before the race. Please watch out for them.
