Given the rapidly approaching Christmas Holidays, the meeting took place on December 2nd to accommodate the busyness of the season for society members. The meeting began with a

review of the evening’s planned agenda together with some announcements by our President

David Bailie. One very important item noted by David was a reminder of the upcoming Annual

General Meeting (March, 2009) of the society and the major raffle again this year for a $1,500 grand prize in the form of a credit voucher valid at Apple Reseller stores in the area. Tickets are now available for the raffle and members are encouraged to buy theirs now so as to ensure we all have an opportunity to win this very valuable prize.

Paul Pazdera then provided a demonstration on the ‘Typinator’ program—a form of word processing tool for producing, editing and managing letters and other correspondence which also manages a number of foreign languages. A site license is required for use.

As January, 2009 marks the 25th anniversary of the introduction of the Macintosh computer, Paul showed a video from January, 1984 featuring its introduction by a much younger Steve Jobs—a most enjoyable peek into the past. Paul also provided very useful information together with demos on a variety of dashboard style widgets and programs designed to make easier and safer computing practices.

Paul’s time was followed by more info from David including a humourous video on out-takes of presentations made by Steve Jobs over the years which shows that we all experience incidents of failed software and hardware at the most critical times even though we believe we are expert on a given program or device. All are fallible as are those things we create.

The meeting concluded with an informative good session of Q’s and A’s. The society would like to especially recognize and thank George Paikos and his helpers for acquiring some very special mid-meetng snacks and desserts to permit members to celebrate the upcoming

Holiday Season.
