Typhoon Race 2008

About Typhoon Race

The Typhoon Race originated from F3F (slope racing) communities in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and South Korea. The first race began with F3F Hong Kong Open, and since then grew to include F3F Taiwan Open and F3F Korea Open. At the 2007 F3F Korea Open, Taiwan Team Member Ming Tao Lee (Magic Lee) proposed to have a Pan Asia Pacific Tour with a race organized by each region every year. The first official meeting was held at the 2007 F3F Hong Kong Open, and also included participants from Australia. After much discussion, the annual event was named Typhoon Race proposed by the Korean team to reflect the uniqueness of the Asia Pacific region. Mr. Stanley Chan of Hong Kong was nominated as the Interim Chair for the Tour.

The inaugural race in 2008 will be hosted by Taiwan, followed by South Korea for 2009. The hope is for more regions to host a race each year to form a tour of Asia Pacific.

The contest will have duration of three days. Due to too many contestants in recent contests causing long race duration, the number of participants will be limited to a maximum of 40 contestants. The organizing location will have 5 additional seats by invitation (to include special top seed contestants such as champion / fastest times from previous Typhoon Races, or special guests from overseas), to make up the total number of contestants at 45 at maximum. Tentatively a priority is given to the three founding regions (Taiwan, Hong Kong, and South Korea), which will have 10 seats each, with the remaining seats to be filled up by contestants from other regions. If there are remaining seats left, the organizing region will fill up the spots. In the future if there are more participating regions, the seat proportions will be discussed and adjusted in the official meetings.

We’d like to mention that although this event is organized and hosted in Asia Pacific, we very much welcome and encourage flyers and contestants from other regions to join us!
