He never ceases to amaze me. The Bible says “God sets the lonely in families” so I don’t know why I continue to be surprised. The latest word we have received is that this sweet girl, almost a teenager, will be joining her family this year. Please pray for her and for the family. And join me in praising God for is goodness.

I had previously mentioned that the Preschools at the orphanage were run by Half the Sky. In a recent newsletter they included an excerpt from an online diary from the teachers and nannies. This really helps understand and appreciate the loving care these children receive and the regular heartache these caregivers feel.

One Love, Two Mixed Feelings

Whenever a child is going to be adopted, her teacher is seized by strong, mixed feelings
of joy and sorrow. Words exchanged between them often reveal these feelings.

The bonds between a child who is going to be adopted and her nanny, however,
weren’t as easy for me to grasp. At least not until I saw the tears in a nanny’s eyes
did I realize we teachers aren’t the only ones suffering from such feelings spurred
by separations.

From the time a child is brought to an orphanage, wrapped up in a bundle, till she learns to talk and walk, the nanny’s big hands have always
been there to hold those tiny hands, every step along the way.

As time goes by, the intimate bonds between the two become those between mother and child. When I saw that nanny wrap her arms around
the child and refuse to let go, tears streaming down her face, I saw a powerful mixture of happiness and sadness overfl owing in those teardrops
and kisses.

Sad because her baby bird was leaving the nest.

Happy because her prayers of the child fi nding a good home were fi nally answered.

The child might not understand these profound feelings, but the scene certainly inspired great respect in all those who were there to witness
it.

When two contradictory feelings are produced by one true love, one cannot not help but be moved....
— Half the Sky Preschool Teacher
