We observed the ring tailed lemurs. Their habitat has lots of leaves, dead trees, live trees, and sticks and pine straw. As you can see, it is fall.
They like to climb trees and groom each other. We think that they might groom each other for finding mates or to flirt. We saw two lemurs biting each other’s fur and licking each other. They groom themselves more than each other. We observed them groom themselves 8 times and each other only 3 times.
They rested about 20 times in 20 minutes. They stared into space, kneeled down on their knees, and looked like they were daydreaming. It reminded us of how we feel in math class!
They defecated (pooped) twice. They eat brownish stuff that looked like mashed up cat food. They licked trees. We learned on the Ipod that the people who work here feed them stuff like dog food and grapes.
In the first five minutes, they played by chasing each other and racing up the trees. They reminded us of Spider man because he can jump really far like the lemurs did. One of them did a wall jump off a tree.
They did not fight at all when we were observing them. They did not sleep and we think they sleep at night time. Or, maybe they only sleep at night because they were in captivity. They did not drink when we observed them. We did not see them look for food. We think maybe they know where it is.
We think lemurs are interesting animals because their tails are bigger than their bodies, they can climb trees, they can play with each other, and they are easy to observe. We think it is neat that they only play certain ways with each other.
