.The Fast Trauma treatment or Rewind
is learned with an experienced practitioner trained in its use, and is carried out in as deep a state of relaxation and comfort as possible. There is no need to speak about what happened and no need to share details with the therapist.
The person is asked to imagine being in a place where they feel really safe and comfortable, and when they are ready to imagine they have a tv set in front of them with a remote control.
They can then imagine themselves floating away to one side so they can watch themselves watching a DVD of the traumatic event starting before it happened and finishing after it was over and they were once more in a place of relative safety. They then float back into their body and use the remote control to rewind the ‘film’, watching it going backwards just like rewinding a video or DVD. After this it is a matter of fast forwarding and rewinding the film until the emotions have subsided.
The treatment is very quick and painless. Even relatively minor trauma can cause symptoms which can be eradicated so it is worth seeking treatment as it can do no harm and may bring about change and lasting benefit.
What you should know
The treatment of trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder has changed radically over the last 20 or so years.....
In 1991 Dr David Muss published a book entitled ‘The Trauma Trap’ outlining how he used a technique from Neuro-Lingustic Programming after he had been unable to help his wife through the after effects of a horrifying attack. (She fought terrifying nightmares for 18 years before she felt she had her symptoms under control.)
Since then the treatment, once used to help overcome phobias, has been used successfully to remove the symptoms of trauma, such as reliving the experience in dreams or intrusive thoughts - occasionally but rarely as a kind of waking dream, sometimes with sweating, pounding heart and other physiological symptoms of extreme stress.
Sometimes the symptoms take the form of numbness with an inability to show affection or feel feelings, disrupting relationships, or a state of arousal where sleep is difficult and appetite is affected. There may be a general restlessness and inabliltiy to concentrate.
There are many ways in which even minor trauma may detrimentally affect one’s life.
Trauma is categorised as
1. a serious threat to life or one’s physical integrity
2.a serious threat or harm to one’s children, spouse or other close relatives and friends
3.sudden destruction of one’s home or community
4. seeing another person who has recently been or is being seriously injured or killed as a result of an accident or physical violence
5. in some cases learning about a serious threat or harm to a close friend or relative.
However life events such as difficult childbirth may result in post traumatic symptoms which affect normal functioning and enjoyment
