The Young Widows Foundation, Inc.,
A non-profit organization

A place to find comfort and understanding, The Young Widows Foundation, Inc., is here to help widows or widowers under the age of 60 to cope with the loss of their loved one. We are hear to lend an ear and support you emotionally and spiritually. Our goal is to help you with shopping, budgeting and just getting up in the morning. We are a not-for-profit organization that has a heart to help you, so you can eventually help others. Also, our goals are to engage in outreach activities that help orphans, troubled teens and the homeless. We find that it is always easier to cope with our loss when we remain active in helping others less fortunate than ourselves. The founder Barbara C. Willingham was widowed on December 18th, 2001, due to advanced prostate cancer,
3 months after the September 11th, attacks. Most of all, we would like to provide hope through our prayer page and grief share blog.

“One of the things that I found as a new widow back in 2002 was that there was not much instant access to specific spiritually based material that would comfort the young widow, basically I could have used Bible verses and prayers to guide me through the rough waters” - Barbara Willingham

We are also waiting for our tax-exempt status which will help us in providing the services listed above. If you would like to help in any way you can email us at: bcw68@bellsouth.net

Meanwhile, please find comfort and strength on our prayer page and grief share.

Mark 12:38-44. The story of the "widow's mite" comes immediately after warnings by Jesus about the "home-devouring" practices of the scribes who were expected to use the temple treasury funds to support widows and orphans, but used it to support their own lavish lifestyles instead. That is why the widow has only a penny to give, but also why she gives it all — that perhaps others might still be helped, even if meagerly, by what she can offer.
