In my work, nature and organic forms become symbols and codes, and the stories they tell are written in a visual shorthand like a long-forgotten ancient alphabet. Visual metaphors of birth, growth, death, and renewal are all present, interplaying with our human emotional states of being. Using birds, roots, shells, seeds, eggs and fruit, these works explore the dual themes in the natural world and ours with a biophilic sensibility. Both macro and micro worlds are used, from star fields to microscopic sea life.
Nature is eternally experimenting. My art has followed as well. As my style evolves into more of a "build up, tear down" state of mind, the work plays within a juxtaposition of opposites. Soft and bold colors meet. Vines are rendered both boldly and delicately. Sheer glazes build up as more layers of color are scraped away. Thick paint is combined with sketchy outlines. More and more, the work is finding a place to thrive and grow within this poetic balance between extremes.
My paintings are relationships set within an emotional landscape. Relationships between ourselves and within ourselves, between us and the earth, between earth and space. Unlike science, art has no limitations regarding anthropomorphism; I invite you to look at these new worlds with fresh eyes, and give you the freedom to draw parallels between them and the innermost terrain of feeling.

Welcome
Biophilia:
The love of life or living systems, and the instinctive bond between human beings and other living systems. It is the connections that human beings subconsciously seek with the rest of life.
