The iHack! Project

Greetings! Welcome to my first modification project. I've had this machine working for a while now.  After discussing the machine in various forums decided to put it up on the net. So here you go, but first let me credit some other peoples work:

Without these articles, I probably never would have made this machine.

Okay, let me give you the specs:

PowerMac G4 (PCI Graphics) AKA Yikes! Case

Asrock Conroe 945G-DVI Motherboard

Core2Duo E6300 1.87GHz CPU

Zalman CNPS8000 “Ultra Quiet, Low Profile” Cooler

2 x Sticks of 512MB DDRII667 Memory

Nvidia GeForce 6200 128MB (PCI) GFX

On board HD Audio (ALC888)

Realtek RTL8111B Gigabit LAN 10/100/1000 Mb/s

ASD API-311 Rev D PYRO1394 PCICard (Firewire 400)

D-Link DWL-G122 Rev C1 (USB WiFi 54G)

D-Link DBT-120 Rev B4 (USB Bluetooth)

2 x Samsung HD080HJ 80 Gig SATAII 7200rpm Hard Drive

1 x Maxtor 6B250S0 250 Gig SATA 7200rpm Hard Drive

Pioneer DVR-K05 (Apple shipped/supported) Slim Slot-load DVD-RW

Complimented by a Apple Pro Keyboard and Mouse.

The role of this machine is portability and versatilty.  It will run a variety of operating systems including: WinXP, Ubuntu (edgy) and possibly an un-named other ;-)

Because of the handles on the Yikes! case it will be portable, and compared to my old PowerMac G5 dual 2.3GHz it should be relatively light.  Also, the Yikes! looks damn cool. I call it the “iHack!”, as the slot-load optical drive reminds me of the iMac, it’s built from a “Yikes!” case and at it’s heart it’s a hackintosh.
