I decided it’s easier to post our match reports here. I guess by doing this it makes it official that I’m now the scribe for the post-match analysis for our Tuesday team, the “Streets of London”

Unfortunately reporting of the games has ended up being rather sporadic over the last few weeks. The Streets only have two games left this season so we’ll be updating the site (so Jon Taylor can read it on his 1995 browser) for the start of the new season - so bear with us!
With the season starting out on a goal flurry the table will really heat up this season.

* Note that the top assists could change subject to official verification based upon the FC International v Streets of London inquiry.

The Streets played a thrilling 3-5 game Tuesday night although the deserved celebration was short-lived after Daley sustained a knee injury that cut his game off early and ended up in a visit to Folsom hospital.

Under the impression that they were actually playing Inter FC and not FC International, the Streets team had almost conceded the game before it even kicked off. The idea of playing a team that had literally annihilated their opposition the week before was not a pleasant thought, especially with the smoky atmosphere as California’s fires raged nearby, was not one they looked forward to.

Despite the apparent odds that weren’t, the game was soon underway. The phycology had obviously made an immediate impact as FC international pushed through and fired off the first warning shot.

Shortly after, Don Bradshaw was caught napping at the back as an open goal opportunity fell to the FC International striker who made the most horrendous mess of striking home.

It wasn’t long before the Streets conceded, however, as Don Bradshaw failed to hold onto a cross and it dropped to the waiting striker who slotted home.

Unfortunately for the Streets, Jon Taylor was forced to retire after a Kentucky Fried Chicken bargain bucket was opened in the stands and the smell, being too much to resist, forced him into early retirement from the game. Under the guise of an “Achilles” injury he left the field and was substituted for the young talent of “Wade”.

When asked about his injury Taylor said “well, [chomp, chomp] it’s something [munch, munch] that I picked up at the end [munch, chomp] of last season. A week off and I should be better. [burp]” He failed to share the chicken.

With Wade now on the field and realizing that fortune was in their own hands, the Streets started to defend strongly and managed to turn the game to their advantage. Wade made a series of deft moves to free up a pass to Dave Scribner who launched himself at the FC International defense before finding the bottom left corner of the goal.

The visitors, now tied, left the home team somewhat stunned. Seizing their opportunity a long through ball from Mike Lefabvre to Dave Boyet saw him run down the right and put the perfect cross into the box. The ball moved across from the right with such precision that Michael Daley managed to get well above the defenders and convert the cross with his (and we quote) “dazzling” header to put the Streets in front.

With two goals in the bag the Streets now had the upper hand at 1-2 to the visitors.

Interestingly the usual complaining from the Streets player’s was absent from the side and the cohesion seemed to work reasonably well without the chatter. In fact it worked so well that Kevin O’Brien managed to perfectly place the third for the Streets right before the half-time whistle (there is still an inquiry into who gets the credit for the assist and we’ll be reporting on that once the decision has been announced).

With the Streets leading 1-3 as they went into half-time the result looked certain, even if Taylor had eaten the last of the bargain bucket without sharing with his team mates.

The second half became nothing short of a a flurry of goal mouth action. FC International came out fighting but were generally held on every front by the Streets who uncannily managed to beat their opposition to the ball time after time.

Chris McCargo, filling in at the back for Chicken Strips Taylor, held a commanding position insturcting the back line when to advance. The resulting move constantly caught the opposition offside until they started running with the ball.

A breakthrough opportunity saw FC international clean through the middle of the defense and there was little that Bradshaw could do to stop the shot from reaching its target.

At 2-3 the Streets were still in command of the game, but within 5 minutes FC International had scored again after a free-kick from just outside the 18-yard box was picked up and slotted in behind the Streets defense.

The Streets, however, didn’t let up and with Tommy Hillesland closing in every opportunity FC International had in front of the central defense, the hole was permanently shut.

But it was another fine play from Scribner who, running at the defense found the target and, once again put the Streets ahead 3-4.

Shortly thereafter screams of a penalty came from the FC International team as Andy Nelson tripped one of the forwards outside the penalty area. The forward managed to make four giant leaps, did a double breasted back flip somersault and dived like an olympic gold medalist into the area. The referee, wise of the blatant attempt, waved the game on.

Moments later Scribner was pulled down inside the penalty area as he closed in for the 5th goal. Once again the referee saw nothing wrong (he was reading a book apparently) and the ball rolled over the back line for a goal kick.

The unanswered fouls soon came to an end however when Chris Hayhoe was penalized and shown the yellow for taking down a player in his own half.

With tension running high, Scribner again managed a solo effort to tuck in the 5th goal and his hat-trick for the night.

With 10 minutes left on the clock, Daley went in for a challenge and came out worse for when when he twisted his knee and landed hard on his ankles at the same time. Despite there being no chicken left, he ended up being carried off the field where he was later treated at Folsom Hospital for his injuries.

There is some debate over whether or not an FC International goal was allowed shortly thereafter. The goal was clearly scored and the game restarted, but the officials didn’t register the goal in the official score card, so what was a 4-5 result ended up being 3-5.

After starting off fairly strong, the Streets have managed to hold their own so far this season, although the fact they have conceded nearly as many goals in the first two games as all of last season just shows the difference in playing ability.

Streets of London
Bradshaw, Nelson, Taylor, Hayhoe, Boyet, Hillesland, Lefebvre, “Wade”, McCargo, Scribner, Daley, O’Brien

Att: 11
Ref: Mr. Nutha Decision (Folsom).
Rushden & Diamonds striker Lee Tomlin has today committed his long-term future to the Club by signing a new contract that will keep him at Nene Park until the end of the decade. Then the duo were immediately and mysteriously loaned to the newly promoted Streets of London side by the Vauxhall League Southern Division club.

When asked if the move would be approved by the FA (Folsom Association) and the English FA the R&D F.C. boss said, “We are a non-league side - the FA has nothing to do with this loan. And as far as the age restriction in Folsom… the league seems to have waved that rule and every other rule in last Tuesday’s match against Sac United.”

He went on to say, “Carlos Tevez snuck in the backdoor of this country to sign in the FA, then to see him on the pitch in Folsom as a summer signing speaks volumes about the integrity of both leagues! Especially when he showed up a halftime and signed under an assumed name, Cesar Chavez”

Did the boys realize that they had signed for a California team and not a Thames side? “We failed to mention it to the lads. The name is a bit of a misnomer. It is a summer in California. They were happy. Until they realized the closest beach was three hours away.”

How about the Streets of London Manager? Is he pleased with the deal? “He seems to be bolstering the side with a new youth movement. The loan will complement the signing of Brian the Younger, who had three assists in his debut Tuesday.”

Do you see this as continuing club relationship? “Absolutely, Kevin O’Brien is a legacy. He was on our inaugural side in 1912. We reconnected at a testimonial match honoring our 90th season as a club. I was given the honor of pushing Mr. O’Brien’s wheelchair to the center-circle for the ceremony. We have been chums ever since that day.”

Brian Dowd, the latest signing to join the recently promote Streets of London team, made a stunning impact with his first touch of the ball Tuesday night as he helped the Streets hold firm to a thrilling 3-3 tie against Sac United in what ended up being a shock for the away team.

Sac United began the game a few players short and, despite this seeming disadvantage, managed to put on a strong performance.

From the outset the Streets had a lot to prove after their recent promotion and with the first game being one of the seasoned first division teams things looked ominous for the first game.

But they got underway with some fight in their bellies and made the first strike after the latest addition to the team, Brian Dowd, made his entrance. His first touch of the ball was a clean pass through to Mike Daley who snuck home the first goal for the home side.

Although somewhat stunned, the Streets capitalized on the opportunity of being 1 up and started to pound the Sac United goal with shot after shot.

The assault soon paid off as Dowd slipped another fine ball through to the forwards. This time it was Dave Scribner who picked up the pass and ran at the defense striking a fine shot into the back of the net past the diving keeper.

Being 2-0 up the Streets looked comfortable for a win until Sac United switched up the team. Sac United rounded out their deficit of players to 10 and the stand-in goalkeeper was finally permitted to assume his normal playing position at the head of the team.

The change proved costly for the Streets and very beneficial to Sac United. Within minutes of the change Sac United had pulled back one goal as the former keeper turned executioner.

Going into the half the Streets held the game to 2-1 but Sac United’s passing and finishing was starting to affect the Streets ability to push forward.

A quick team talk from every player on the Streets’ team obviously had the right impact as they came back out fighting.

Jon Taylor, although nurturing a lagging Achilles injury managed to hold the central defense tight until Sac United managed to push through and strike a second into the back of Don Bradshaw’s net.

With the game now at 2-2 it seemed that O’Brien’s squad were looking down the face of a first defeat in the first game, but the team held strong.

It was another Dowd-Scribner combination that earned the Streets their third goal of the game and gave them, once again, the edge they were looking for. A slick passing maneuver that began at the back through midfield and onto the deft foot of Dowd allowed Scribner to break through and secure the advantage.

Dowd had clearly made an impact in his debut game, and the combination of Dowd, Scribner and Daley seemed to be a good weapon in this league.

Unfortunately for the Streets the lead didn’t last long as Sac United finally found a way through to level the game. But the Streets had done enough and holding on to the tie was now within their grasp.

The Streets were welcomed back to the top flight league with an opening game against a side that usually left nothing but destruction in their wake. They held their ground and, although conceded one-third the number of goals in their first game that they conceded all last season, were able to secure a tie.

Man of the match undoubtedly went to Dowd for is performance.

After the game Kevin “The Guvnor” O’Brien had nothing but praise for his team. “They were great. They managed to pass the ball and even made me look great. Maybe this season we can do the same as last and really show the league who is top dog!”

The season started out well for the Streets and we expect nothing but excitement in the coming weeks.

Streets of London
Bradshaw, Nelson, Taylor, Boyet, Hillesland, Lefebvre, Mussor, Knifeton, McCargo, Dowd, Scribner, Daley, O’Brien

Att: 11
Ref: Mr. Nutha Decision (Folsom).
Will there be a move for Keegan to Folsom?

We can only speculate, but one thing we can say for sure is that the hair stylists they use cut to the same style even if Keegan doesn’t use Just For Men.
