Steam on a Mac
15/11/08 21:08
Ive noticed that there are a fair few
people out there who would like to know how to get
Steam working on their Macs, so I thought I would
take this opportunity to explain how to do it.
Before I go into that though, there are a couple of things that need to be cleared up first, before we can go any further. First of all, you have to use an Intel Mac for this solution, so providing that you have a Mac bought during the last couple of years, you should be ok. Secondly, you will need to download and install Crossover Games, the current version is 7 and it’s commercial software though you can download a fully working demo that will run for 7 days. It should give you a chance to try Steam though and a couple of the games.
That being said, lets get to the point :)
Once you have Crossover installed, launch it and go to the Configure menu
Click on Install Software...
From the window that appears, select Steam via download
Click continue

Useful commands for Steam and Crossover Games
15/11/08 19:35
I had some problems finding some of
the commands that people were referring too on the internet that
can be used in Steam in order to get some games to work, so I
thought that I would share the ones that I have found so far here.
If you are aware of any others, then let me know and I will add
them.

Left 4 Dead Demo via Crossover Games 7 and Steam
15/11/08 19:12
I managed to snag Crossover Pro and
Crossover Games via the lameduck promotion a few days ago with the
intention that I would try some more of my games on there now that
I have a none time-limited version.
The first thing that I decided to try was Steam because I’d heard and read a lot on the internet about people having success getting games running under OS X with Steam and also because at the end of the day, my ideal solution would allow me just to use OS X and remove the bootcamp partition.
I installed Steam via the menu option under Crossover and it went without a single hitch, the biggest problem that I had was remembering my password :)
Once it was installed, I tried the Left 4 Dead demo, this downloaded and installed again without any problems but once it was done there were some issues with the game itself. Read More...

Crysis

Just thought Id mention that Ive
installed Crysis on my MBP (2.6ghz, 4GB ram and Geforce 8800 256MB
Video card) and Im able to play with all of the settings on high,
AA off and 1024 x 768 resolution. So far its not too bad and Im
thinking of pumping up the resolution a notch or two to see how
much I can get away with.
Anyways, if youre thinking of trying Crysis, give it a go.
