I came across an issue with Rapidweaver 4 last night while trying to update my daughters webpage with photos that we took during Christmas and Novemeber. Every time I tried to publish the site, Rapidweaver would crash and lock up the whole computer, it was basically using 100% of both CPU's and around a GB of memory. The only way that I was able to bring the computer back to life was to ssh into it from my iPhone and reboot it as just killing the process for Rapidweaver didnt fix it.
I tried publishing three times (I'm a sucker I know) before giving up and going to the forums on Rapidweaver's site. They have a stick there mentioning hanging but it's mainly a request for information and not a solution. After looking around for a bit and googling I gave up (it was around 10:30pm, which when youre woken up each morning at 4am is quite late) but I didnt want to give up. I decided to give it one last go before bed and I dont quite know myself why I tried this but I ran the normalise photos option in Rapidweaver, this normalised 168 photos which I use as thumbnail menu's on some of the pages and reduced them from the 320x240 size that I had them resized too before I brought them into Rapidweaver to the thumbnail sizes. After this when I tried publishing it went through like a charm and published successfully.
Rapidweaver is a good program, there are acouple of things about it that annoy me though, for example when adding a new album to a sub-menu, it marks the whole site as changed, I know you can mark it as unchanged again and then go back and mark just the album as changed but why should you have too? I would also wish for it to handle photos a little better, perhaps a bit more like iWeb? Then again it could just be that I need to work with it more.
Still I thought this might prove useful for anyone else experiencing the lock-ups as a potential fix? Perhaps?.
