Welcome to Planet Geography 5th Edition

Planet Geography, by respected geographer and author Stephen Codrington, was the first book in English to be tailored to meet the requirements of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Geography course.

The book will soon be published in its 5th edition and has been completely re-written for the new IB Diploma Geography program, supported by an all new Image DVD.  It is also suitable for students studying other senior Geography courses that have a contemporary global focus.

The new edition contains more than 1200 colour photographs by the author, plus about 200 diagrams to enhance understanding of our planet, its processes and its pressures.

This website is designed to support the book with extra resources and ideas for extended research.

About

The 5th edition of Planet Geography has been entirely re-written to support the new IB Diploma Geography program that will be taught from September 2009, with first examinations in May 2011.

The
CONTENTS of the book closely mirrors the structure of the new course.  Section A (Patterns and Change) covers the compulsory core.  Section B (Geographical Themes) covers the optional themes, and Section C (Global Interactions) covers the Higher Level extension.

The book is richly illustrated in full colour with hundreds of relevant new photographs as well as new diagrams that illustrate the new concepts introduced into the course.  The layout of the book has been modernised and upgraded significantly from previous editions.

To support the IB requirement that IB Geography has clear links to Theory of Knowledge, every chapter of the book has a “ToK Box” that relates the theme of the chapter to a theme in Theory of Knowledge.  An example of a Tok Box (from Chapter 1) is shown below (click to enlarge).
