Writer, Editor, Content Strategist
Vander Pluym, n. [Dutch] In 1811 Napoleon issued a proclamation that each person had to identify himself or herself by a particular surname. Pluym is derived from the Old Dutch word pluim, meaning feather. The words van and der together mean “of the.” Thus, the name indicates one who dwelled at the house of the quill, or pen, as feathers were used as writing instruments during this period. Editor’s Note: Yes, that’s Andrea’s birth name—it’s not a nom de plume (pun unavoidable).
