Enchanter’s Garden

specializing in mid-Atlantic region native plants

From dry oak ridges that harbor a rare vernal pool, to rich stream banks and cool hemlock covered slopes.  The beauty and abundance of native wildflowers here beckoned me down the path to learning their identities, how to use them in landscapes... and finally, how to propagate and offer them to anyone willing to depart from the usual ideas of ornamental gardening.

Plants are the foundation of most of the Earth’s ecosystems.  All of the organisms of a particular community of plants, from soil microbes to herbivores and predators, owe their existence to the continuing health of that plant community.  The more you use natives in landscaping, the more you are reconnecting your property to the biological community of your area.

All plants sold are grown from propagative material (seeds, divisions, cuttings) collected by me or friends either from the wild or here at the nursery.  Most species are grown from seed.  I am always looking for plants that have not been considered for their horticultural value before.  It’s amazing how many such plants still exist in the Eastern U.S.
