Full sun; fertile, well-drained soil; often found along rivers; after a slow start, plants get better and fuller with each passing year; attaining low shrub form with numerous spikes blue-violet pea flowers; a good choice for gardens, very long-lived; 3’-4’ feet; blooms May-June; hardy in zones 3-8; W. Va. ecotype.
