Shavit, Ami

Ami Shavit. b. 1934, Israel. Studies: Tel Aviv University, philosophy and psychology; Hebrew University, Jerusalem. Teaching: Tel Aviv University. Prize: 1970 Ika Prize for Young Artists, Israel Museum. Specialised in optic and kinetic art, including structures worked by electricity, moving tubular configurations illuminated by coloured lights. Also developed new methods of printing. Was director of Haifa Museum of Modern Art and a founder of the Tefen Museum. Exhibitions: Venice, Biennale for Artists; Tokyo, Biennale for Graphics. Lives in Ein Hod and Tel Aviv.
