New Sanctuary Movement
The Mission Leaf is sponsoring ongoing dialogue about immigration in the United States and the work of congregations nationwide involved with the New Sanctuary Movement. We will host a speaker from the New Sanctuary Movement and invite other congregations in the area to learn more about it this year The decision to become a sanctuary church would be made at a congregational meeting when we are fully informed. Please read the article about sanctuary by Mission Leaf member Sayrah Namaste.
AMC Children’s Offering
Each Sunday our children take up a collection to support an orphanage in Bangladesh through Mennonite Central Committee’s Global Family Program.
Children are brought to orphanages because their parents have died or because their poverty-stricken parents can no longer care for them. Global Family funds support four orphanages by helping house, clothe and educate orphaned children.
Global Family assistance is also given to several schools. Funds help schools buy chalk boards and benches, construct latrines, etc., and are also used to help poor children buy books, pens, pencils, and clothes so they can attend school.
School Supplies Drive
The Mission Leaf is organizing a school supplies drive for Sunday, August 5th. Morningstar, an organization supporting battered women and children and one of AMC's "first fruits", is in need of school supplies for the children they serve. Items are needed for children in grades K-8. Please bring school supplies to church on Sunday, August 5th. A list of needed supplies will be posted soon, but if you are shopping for your own child, please pick up extras for a Morningstar child! For more information, contact Sayrah Namaste: sayrahn@hotmail.com
The annual CROP walk will take place in Albuquerque on Sunday, October 21st. AMC will be participating in this interfaith event to raise funds to feed the hungry around the world and in our own communities. Please consider walking in the CROP walk or sponsoring a walker! Informational packets will be distributed at a later date. For more information, contact Marie St. Claire.
