Responsibilities under this leaf include visiting and praying with those who are ill, grieving, or simply in need of pastoral care; providing anointing and laying of hands for those who desire this kind of healing; administering the sharing fund;  providing opportunities for the spiritual practice of healing prayer in congregational life (including Advent and Lenten silent retreats and special healing services) informing the congregation when there are special needs or prayer requests; and providing a listening presence and/or mediation for intra-congregational conflicts.

The Pastoral Care Elder is the coordinator of the Healing Ministries Team which provides pastoral care for the congregational life of AMC in conjunction with the pastor.
