“Regard your good name as the richest jewel you can possibly be possessed of”
Have you ever wondered about the story of your name? Who gave it to you? Why was it given to you? What is the meaning of your name? What country does it come from? What is the origin of your name?
Our next research and writing project will focus on finding the origin of our names. Finding the origin starts with the word Etymology. Etymology, as Webster’s dictionary defines it, is the history of a linguistic form (as a word) shown by tracing its development since its earliest recorded occurrence in the language where it is found by tracing its transmission from one language to another, by analyzing it into its component parts, by identifying its cognates in other languages, or by tracing it and its cognates to a common ancestral form in an ancestral language.
And for a better explanation....
let’s watch a BrainPop cartoon about etymology.
