Biography

Tim Tamashiro is a musician / broadcaster / businessman who loves food, life and new ideas. As a part of the Canadian music industry over the past two decades, he’s gone where the wind took him eventually landing where he is today. Calgary has been Tim’s home since 1993 but he was raised in a small Alberta town called Blackfalds. Although Blackfalds is where he laid his head, he still counts nearby Lacombe and Red Deer as his home towns as well!

Many know Tim as the national weekend host of Tonic on CBC Radio 2, but Tim is also involved in many other aspects in the music biz aside from CBC. Presently, he is promoting a new CD called “I Take Requests”. It’s a collection of “used songs” that he has always loved and he will record them in a jazz quintet setting along with some of his favorite buddies including Sheldon Zandboer (piano), Dave Pierce (drums), Jason and Sheldon Valleau (bass, ukulele, oooo’s, aaaww’s and percussion), and Aaron Young (guitars).

Over the years, Tim has also released several other recordings as well starting back in 1995 with his debut album “Wiseass Crooner”. This little big band recording started not only his recording career but also the producing career of Dave Pierce who has gone on to produce production around the world for some of the biggest entertainment properties in the world. With national attention coming from CBC and Bravo, Tim went on to record two additional albums in 1999: Ai(Love) and Love at Christmas. His sales experience he picked up while working at MCA Records Canada for several years paid off when he landed a deal with La Senza Lingerie to sell his Christmas album in 192 stores across Canada. He immediately followed up with a Valentines day recording immediately after.

In 2004, Tim recorded an interesting project that would allow him to explore both his upbringing with country music and is love of jazz. Tim Tamashiro and his Bonanza Little Big Band was born and a CD called “Big Ball’s in Cowtown” was released. Tim performed along side with legendary country crooner Ian Tyson on “Choo Choo Ch’ Boogie” and provided music for events such as The President’s Rodeo (for the Calgary Stampede), Encana and many other high profile Stampede and tourism events. One track from “Big Ball’s in Cowtown” even went on to be on an Alberta music compilation for The Smithsonian Institute.

Tim Tamashiro offers his performance services as Canada’s only Executive Entertainer. He is often called upon to act as MC / entertainer for world, political or business leaders across Canada.

Tim Tamashiro has always enjoyed tremendous support from radio, especially in Alberta. CKUA has been an outstanding supporter of Tim’s music over the years. That support is now being returned to many musicians across the country through Tim’s involvement with CBC Radio 2. Tim is a passionate supporter of Western Canadian music and welcomes any opportunity to see new and exciting talent as it’s available.
