ABOUT CONSTRAINTS
Monday, September 22, 2008
I have noticed something very interesting since I have started running, and that feeling you get when you have finished a 5 miler, or after you woke up at 5:30 am to run, that you are invincible, and that you can accomplish whatever you want.
And the thing is that after running my first 10k, my perspective toward life has changed. I have noticed that the only TRUE constrain that anyone has are the physical ones. For some reason, us, as human beings are accustomed to create our own constraints to avoid doing stuff (work, personal things) and to make things more complicated than what they really are. I guess it has to do with the fact that we want to make sure people understand how valuable we are, but I guess, that most runners like me (yeah, even beginners like me) start to realize, the big amount of crap that we can invent.
What does the rest of the people know about constraints??. Are they waking up in the morning one hour ahead of work because that is the only time you have available to run??, do they know the feeling of your knees aching after 40 minutes of running but still not stopping to complete that last mile!??. What about the humidity on your face and the mosquitos bitting on the most remote parts of your human body?!??!.
But even with all of those things, we never stop. We finish our run. Aching. Sore. Sweaty. Smelling horrible. But at the end, everything is good, and we feel happy and relieved with ourselves. No constraints for us. We now what life is all about.
At least, this is how I have been feeling lately after I started running. I have been analyzing people’s behavior on life and work, and I have realized how the majority of us start talking about something in particular and start deviating ourselves to another topic or issue that will prevent us from doing what we originally intended to do.
Life is not that difficult. Life can be as easy as putting yourself a pair of snickers and going out to run. It is all a matter of will and focusing on the correct things.
No constraints..
