Q – What makes Summit successful?

CM – There are many factors that make Summit a Premier Concept School, including small school size, small class sizes, a caring faculty, interesting curriculum, extra class periods, and an incredible array of extra activities and services.

Q – Who can enroll?

CM – All students in custody of the State of Utah are eligible for enrollment. Non-custody students from Alpine District may enroll on a space available basis. There is a waiting list for enrollment. Students, parents, and school officials may place a name on the waiting list by contacting Dr. Doug Nielsen at 801-227-7827.

CM – Transportation by school bus is provided from all parts of Alpine School District for the basic school day (periods one through five). Transportation is not provided for sixth period, summer school, or after school activities. “I always recommend to parents that they provide transportation so that their children don’t miss out on the great Healthy Lifestyles-New Exposure activities.”

Q – How can students extra credit?

CM – Because Summit High operates a mandatory 5th period each day, students can earn more credit just by attending than they would in a comprehensive high school. Sixth period and other offerings can also lead to earning additional credit. “Cliff! I told you to do your homework. Now get back to work!” Do you need extra credit?

Q – Are there extracurricular activities?

CM – In a word, YES! Every year, nearly 100 activities are available. This includes Broadway productions such as Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, and Spamalot, exciting performances such as Stomp, or BLAST! We see entertainers such as Bill Cosby and David Copperfield. Throw in racquetball, ice-skating, sports and game nights, a talent show, and the life changing 3-day outdoor education camps and students find lots of ways to have fun and in some cases earn extra credit. “Sometimes they’ll even take parents along on activities if you ask them nicely.” Here is a schedule of this year’s Healthy Lifestyles-New Exposure activities.

The clearance from Summit indicates that this provision has been met.

CM – State policy allows for five days, after all required materials have been provided (intake form, immunization, birth certificate, transcripts) for school placement. Summit holds intake appointments three times per week and nearly 90-% of referred students are placed within 2 days of receipt of the necessary information.

CM – Custody students enrolled in neighborhood schools, both elementary and secondary, are entitled to the services of a mentor to provide educational and social support to help ensure their success in school.
