Euro Sequentials Skills Camp Sept 2010

Following the success of the Euro Sequentials in March, it was decided to hold a limited slot skills camp prior to the September event. The skills camp was targeted at the vertical flyer with the aim of progressing VFS skills and larger sequential formation skydives. Load organisers were Mikey Carpenter and Fabian Raidel with Andy Lovemore on outside video/stills and stepping in as a third organiser when needed. The requirements for the camp were for the flyer to be comfortable and confident flying 4-way VFS in both head up and head down slots.

So, from the 9th to the 12th September, 18 jumpers from 6 countries descended upon Skydive Spain in Seville for 4 days of intensive jumping in up to 35oC heat & clear blue skies. On day one, we were split into a larger group for the more experienced flyers and 2 smaller groups. For the rest of the event, we were split into 2 groups that were loosely based around skill and experience level. The load organising was exceptional and both groups made some outstanding jumps. The high point for me in the less experienced group was a 7-point 9-way jump that included some challenging formations. The more experienced group made some very impressive more advanced jumps involving separate pieces, lines and pods moving relative and transitions. The organisers also put together tracking jumps at the end of each day which had multiple groups in tight formation flying relative and doing cross-overs - the perfect way to chill out after some quite intensive & demanding jumps.

Over the 4 days, everyone completed the 28 jumps included in the event fee and more.

A good time was had by all and a lot of progress was made. The event was very well organised and was sponsored by UPT, Vigil, Aerodyne, Boogie Man and Skydive Spain. The sponsors provided discount vouchers for equipment and tunnel time as well as evening entertainment, Skydive Spain provided discounted jump tickets for the event. There are plans for another skills camp in spring 2011 - I will definitely be putting it on the calendar!

Eurosequentials Invitational September 2010

This march at Skydive Spain saw the first Eurosequential event of its kind, with Europe’s best freeflyers pulling off some pretty impressive multi-point formations that even the flatties had to admit they were impressed by.

So this September we decided to do it again, but harder, better and faster.  Between myself and Fabian and Mikey from Volare we put together the list; Babylon, Bad Leiutenants, Axis freestyle - to name a few, and of course a few ninjas from the tunnel. The word on the street is that not even Carlsberg could make better sequentials.

After a couple of days of hard jumping, Bottrop wind tunnel sponsored a well-earned meal for the team (cheers Boris). We also had sponsorship from UPT for Vector 3, and some good discounts from Aerodyne. Thanks also to Sonic who got the team up bright and early Sunday morning by offering to pay for the first sequential lift.

Mikey and Fabian definitely pulled the rabbit out the hat with some very challenging exits and jumps over the four days.  Fabians group were exiting 3 individual 3-way rounds from the door, all sliding down the hill in close proximity. Slicker I might say than a greased up venetian. While Mikey’s group had two 5-way lines doing blind verticals. Needless to say you need to check out the latest pics and video on www.eurosequentials.com

Watch this space 3-dimentional flyers, in March 2011 we are holding a Eurosequentials skills camp as well as the invitational. See you there!

Euro Sequentials Skills Camp

The Zoo (Rome)

19th-22nd May 2011

Sunshine, breathtaking scenery, spectacular thunderstorms, Mozzarella & awesome skydives were the ingredients for this years Euro Sequentials skills camp at The Zoo dropzone in Italy. It was great to catch up with old friends and to see so many faces from last years event. This years camp was attended by 25 jumpers from Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, Finland, and the UK.

All groups made some awesome jumps which included some regular head-down points such as flowers, lines & rounds along with classic sequentials such as pods, alley-oops & line-overs. The 10-way also threw some head-up slots into the equation and were attempting some of the more advanced sequentials that have been seen on the main Euro Sequentials event over the last couple of years. It was great to see that the standard of this years event was a definite step up from last years event. I wouldn’t be surprised to see one or two of the better flyers in next years main Euro Sequential event!

On the final day, we started in our original groups for some sequential jumps and then broughtthe groups together for a 21-way formation, this built very quickly and there was good potential for a 2nd point – had we briefed one! By this time, people were drifting off to catch flights and the event wound down with some chill-out tracking dives.

Once again, this was a fantastic event for progressing group flying skills and getting involved in some different and challenging jumps. I would like to extend a big thanks to all the sponsors of this event, Bottrop (wind tunnel), Sonic (suit manufactures), 90 Percent (magazine) and Vector (Rig manufacturer).

Eurosequentials May 2011

Venue... "The Zoo" Rome

This years Eurosequentials was announced early in the year, and saw the introduction of a new venue. I think all participants were excited to see that this year we would be traveling to Rome to perform in an arena 15,000 feet above the coliseum.

The Eurosequentials has now become a well established invitational event bringing together some of the worlds best flyers from the tunnels and skys of Europe with the aim of performing 25 jumps over 3 days. These jumps had been constructed and thought out in advance by 2 of the worlds leading flyers and organisers (Mikey Carpenter and Fabian Raidel), with the aim of pushing the boundaries of sequential group flying. T

Finally, Speaking on behalf of all the participants, a big thankyou to Andy Lovemore (www.andrewlovemore.com) who spent a lot of time and effort organising this event (sponsors, location, flyers, excellent evening entertainment etc...) we all realise these events don't just happen, so thanks for stepping up to the plate and organising another successful Eurosequentials. Andy has also had the foresight to organise very successful training events prior to the Eurosequentials, with the aim of training up and bringing in new talent to the Eurosequentials group in the future, and anyone interested in this kind of flying should keep an eye out for future Eurosequential warm up events.
