The prophet Isaiah wrote that the anointed one would come, the promised Messiah. The prophet stated that He would bring good news to the poor and bring comfort for the brokenhearted. He would proclaim freedom for the captive and bestow a crown of beauty instead of ashes. He would bestow the oil of gladness and it would replace mourning. He would give a garment of praise that would replace the spirit of despair (Isaiah 61:2-4).
What this month in Vietnam is about, is that God is involved with people and that he uses people to help people. It is not about raising money or spending money, nor is it about building houses and replacing roofs. It is about people, His people and His desire to help them. God loved this world and gave His Son so we could see God for who He really is. A God who is not distant from His creation, nor lacking in wanting to be involved in the lives of His people. May we be like Him in our attitude towards His people.
VWAM started it mission eighteen years ago on this scripture: “All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation...”
May we never forget that this is our purpose.
