I ran into an intersting sticky wicket today (I know, sounds painful!) I was puttering around writing an article about women, social media and politics. It basically sounded like this: yada, yada, access, blah, blah, blah, new voices. It was all very pro forma and exceptionally dull. Then I asked my friend Beth Kantor, the social media queen, if she could connect me with any women blogger who might have an opinion about women and political blogs.
And then the fun started!
Beth did her thing and I started to get an earful from an amazing array of women bloggers.
Some of the feedback had to do with whether women are comfortable being as opinionated as men online. Dana Tsuske, a conservative blogger, “I think fewer women blog about politics because they fear they'll offend other women/bloggers.” Hmmm, interesting, I’ll have to think about that one.
The other issue that arose was whether women political bloggers are getting on the blog rolls, and therefore more overall media exposure and traffic, than their male counterparts. Other than going down each of the blog rolls, a very tedious task, this is going to be difficult to assess quantitatively. But, very interesting thoughts.
I’m going to continue to explore and report back later this week.
All thoughts on these topics are welcome!
