Just back from the event at the Hudson Institute. It was as more combative discussion than I expected, or prefer, but according to some folks (good friends who were naturally obliged to say so) I held my own.
Here is a copy of my remarks.
My only regret was that the event wasn’t captured on video to record two memorable remarks I came up with off the cuff (worth extra credit, right?):
* Foundation endowments sit in a state of perpetual capitalist pergatory – it is not in heaven, in their pockets, and it is not in hell, the government’s coffers.
* The life cycle of a foundation is like a banana. In the beginning it’s not ripe enough, you can’t work with it or get a taste for it. In the end, it’s overly ripe and set in its ways. There’s about a day in the middle when it’s OK.
I’ll be finished being pleased with myself in a day or two, but until then . . ..
