Over the next weeks the participants and creative team discussed Time Capsules. What is their main purpose, how do we best choose their contents, who would we want to view the content? And importantly; should the time capsules be for anyone to view?
We decided on these three main objectives:
1. That they indicate a point in time and history.
(Architecture, pop culture, fashion, news, economy, etc..)
2. That they hold information which is both personal to the creator and
the end viewer.
(Favourite music, food, pictures, memories, etc..)
3. That they contain a personal message to the young woman’s children. The letter being a
unique opportunity to speak directly to the child when they reach the age that the mother
is now.
The participants then devised a list which would cover the desired content.
Here is the list:
1. A fashion item which is both personal to me and currently used.
2. My ‘Desert Island’ item or a luxury that I can’t live without.
3. A Picture of myself taken whilst on the Inspire! project.
4. My favourite current picture of my child.
5. A record of my favourite song.
6. List a current icon. (Sports personality, singer, ‘it’ girl/boy, reality TV star).
7. To list what the first record/cassette/CD was that I ever bought.
8. What is a memorable or important place to me.
9. What is my favourite film.
10. My favourite TV programme.
11. My favourite food.
12. Show what money looks like now. (Rubbings of coins or photos).
13. A receipt showing the value of everyday item at the time of creating the capsule.
14. Picture of older generation. (Parent/grandparent).
15. A letter to my child.
