1:30 am - Carrletta, Thelma (Carrletta’s mom), and I find our way to bed after a late night of movie watching.
5:35 am - Carrletta wakes me up saying she’s have contractions. This is first time she’s really had “hard” contractions and I think it will pass.
5:42 am - I start recording the contractions. We start packing the handful of items left to put into the “Delivery Suitcase.” I figure we’ll have the baby sometime before evening (but probably not much before). Carrletta thinks it will happen any minute.
7:05 am - We call a cab. Carrletta seems to be contracting a lot harder than what they talked about in the classes.
7:30 am - We arrive at CPMC and are admitted to the emergency care area (which Carrletta is not happy about...she wants her room...now.) Carrletta repeats the baby is coming soon.
7:45 am - After what seems an eternity, we’re brought to a labor room...The nurse asks Carrletta if she wants an Epidural - Carrletta says yes in something between a snap and a growl.
8:00 am - Nurse checks Carrletta. Gets rid of Epidural and IV equipment before she even started, too late...Carrletta’s fully dilated. Doctor rushes in as Carrletta begins to push.
8:30 am - Malakhi enters our world.
From start to finish 2 hours, 55 minutes.
