We are happy to pay for a weekend of camping at a Washington State Park by paying the basic site fee- plus hook ups, etc.
We rent a site with a slab big enough for a greyhound bus-size RV pulling a vehicle- and we find out that the site fee only allows you to park one car on the slab- each “extra” car costs $10 per night. The RV pulling a car pays the same as one compact car by itself.
There is a max limit of people per site. Cars don't use water/sewer facilities, people do.
Want to meet up with a few friends from around the sound or host a gathering? Each car pays $10 per night.
Some of the slabs are big enough to park several compact cars.
We have been approached by camp host volunteers and uniformed rangers and reminded of the extra vehicle fees early in the morning and immediately upon arriving in camp- this is irritating- it feels like over-supervision.
When I rent the slab- leave me alone to use it for parking as I see fit.
It would be helpful to have some written explanation of this policy posted on the State Park’s website and in the parks.
Rules are easier to understand and follow when they include an educational component- not this time- this is a “Because we said so” rule.
Get your folks back to providing info rather than being traffic cops.
Site paid for- Yes. Cars parked on the slab- Yes. Leave us alone to come and go for the weekend.
From the state park's website:
"The Centennial 2013 Vision
In 2013, Washington's state parks will be premier destinations of uncommon quality, including state and regionally significant natural, cultural,
historical and recreational resources that are outstanding for the experience, health, enjoyment and learning of all people."
Wordy vision statements add nothing for citizens and bring questions about setting priorities and proper use of administrative resources.
