POMONA
I am the ancient Apple Queen,
As once I was so am I now.
For ever more a hope unseen,
Betwixt the Blossom and the Bough.
Ah, where's the rivers hidden gold!
And where the windy grave of Troy?
Yet come I as I come of old,
From out the heart of Summer's joy.
William Morris
The naming of our boat was one of our most difficult decisions. We had more than 100 options until one day we were drying the dishes with a cloth with this picture of Pomona, the Roman goddess of the apple. We did not like the goddess’ name for our boat but, Jane being an admirer of William Morris, thought that the poem embodied the spirit of life afloat. So the name Apple Queen. This tapestry is now in our Apple Queen bedroom.
