Summer Concert
Sunday 5th July saw the Fairlop Faithful gather once again to enjoy what was surely one of the most enjoyable concerts of recent times.
The theme of the show was ‘Movie Matinee’ alluding to the afternoon slot as well as the pieces played. Movie and Theatre music is always popular and Kevin pulled out all the stops to make this a showcase for the bands extensive talents.
Starting with Goodwins ‘The Battle of Britain’ and ending with an encore of ‘Pirates of the Carribean’, the band played some classic scores including;
Batman the Movie
Bolero
Theme from Schindlers List
West Side Story and
The Godfather
A special mention should go to the bands very own Linda Barber who did a fantastic job of arranging some music from ‘Gladiator’ for Brass Band.
The whole concert was excellent in both playing and content.
I also sat and applauded loudly at the announcement that my son James had been awarded the Dennis Carney ‘Most Improved Player’ shield.
Again numbers in attendance had fallen from the last concert. It is always difficult to know whether it is just too hard to get to the concert, or too early for some and too late for others.
Kevin has put in a tremendous effort to try and gain feedback for the change to the afternoon and the ‘kids for a quid’ initiative, but we rarely find out the true feelings of the audience. So Kevin took matters into his own hands and asked the audience to participate in a little feedback session to emphasise the need to get the word spread about this fantastic local band and the stunning shows they are putting on. If you wish to add your own feedback or suggestions for concerts, be sure to mail us at mailus@fairlopbrass.co.uk
If you did not attend the show, then please, please joint those that did and come to the Winter Concert on November 22nd where the special guest star will be David Thornton, Principal Euphonium of the world famous Black Dyke Band. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.
