The Mango Tree was started in 1998 and is a Buddhist storytelling project run by Dharmacari Akuppa, a story teller and ordained Buddhist from Newcastle upon Tyne. He is based at Newcastle Buddhist Centre.

Our stories are drawn from the Buddhist tradition. Some of the tales we tell come from the very early Indian texts almost two and a half thousand years old; others come from later traditions in India and beyond. They are chosen to draw out the universal themes of kindness, compassion, friendship, generosity, adventure and death!

We can tailor our programmes to suit individual circumstances, but a typical session for schools will usually consist of one or two stories along with questions and answers, looking at a Buddha shrine, meditation for children, and other activities to explore the themes that arise.
