The Art of Alejandro Gutiérrez
The Art of Alejandro Gutiérrez
Like the volcanos of his native Colombia, Alejandro’s paintings may remain dormant for many years, only to awaken and reveal their true spirit through the layers of underpainting. Nothing is done until they ask - and they have been asking a lot lately. He has been re-working the Northern Border series, including new pieces. Currently on view: his new landscapes based on the Vancouver ferry sunset series - “Victoria.” (see above) at Art Dialogue Gallery, “Rietango” at the Carnegie Art Center and his tree paintings at the Glass Growers Gallery in Erie, PA. In the works, and soon available here, “the past lives of the current work” - an exhibit of Alejandro’s recently “finished” paintings along with the documented variations of them through the years.
Alejandro & Gary Gregory (drums & vocals) have been busy working the new songs - keep your eyes peeled for the live video! Although the CD Yesterday I Dreamed Today by “Pablo’s Problem” is pretty much done, there is no release date yet. It features Diana Mangano (Jefferson Starship, Steve Kimock, Todd Rundgren) and Billy Martin (Medeski, Martin & Wood) on “May in Zandaam.” Also on my space, Alejandro’s more adventurous music: Håarm - Sunday Morning Haze. The songs on this project are reminiscent of his prior experiments for the Playing It By Ear radio series. They evolved from a series of sunday morning improvisations with Gary Bock and Craig Weiss, both members of Alejandro’s former band Gazeuse!
Alejandro is now working feverishly in the studio on a larger format linens, board and canvas - feel free to make an appointment to arrange for a private viewing. Alejandro has been receiving exhibition and representation offers from galleries and dealers in New York City, Florida, Las Vegas, Montreal and Italy. You can view and purchase his work at ARTslant, the Saatchi Gallery, artist-listing.com, or directly from the artist. His paintings have been featured in The Buffalo News’ Gusto magazine, NY Arts Magazine, and shown at Art Dialogue Gallery, Oxford Gallery, Buffalo Arts Studio, Big Orbit Gallery, Adams Art Gallery, Carnegie Art Center and the Kenan Center.
