Turgut Reis, Marina
Saturday, October 21, 2006

We woke up hideously early on Saturday morning to board the first flight out of Istanbul to Milas Airport.  From Milas, we took a Havaş (airport shuttle bus) to Bodrum, and from there we hopped a dolmuş (local mini-van bus) to Turgut Reis, a sleepy town with a large marina.  This is one of the home ports for Tussock Cruising, a joint venture company with Turkish, British and Dutch arms.  They are one of many companies who charter gulets, which are traditional Turkish fishing boats some 25 meters long, for cruises of the Aegean coast.

This is a shot of the marina, with a few Tussock gulets at anchor and the name of the town (named for an Ottoman admiral who was born here) barely visible on the mountain in back.
