ARTIST STATEMENT
"The images & tones I work with all derive from natural phenomenon. Nature's vivid colours and untamed geometry guide my painting. My voyage is to distil the physical world that inspires me. I stay close to my subject, while invoking its energetic pulse. I am fascinated by the space in-between, the crack amidst the physical and metaphysical worlds we inhabit." Agamemnon Otero
Agamemnon’s bold and immediate paintings connect in spirit with the painterly colour saturation of the Fauvists. His artworks are rendered in acrylic, oil or oil pastel on canvas or paper. He has exhibited and sold work in the United Kingdom, Western Europe, North and South America. His artwork can be found in private and public collections on both sides of the Atlantic.

THE ART CRITICS SAY
"Otero’s paintings carefully balance an emotional element with simplified compositions having enhanced graphic qualities. This simplification of form and colour serves to render his specific subjects in a more universal light. His paintings are less mechanical recordings of these subjects and more iconic representations of a larger whole. The overall effect of Otero’s paintings is to share with the viewer the intensity of his life experience within a joyful and engaged pictorial space." Robert Colburn Assistant Curator - Farnsworth Museum, Maine, USA

"Otero explores the interaction of colour and form. His grouped studies seem ethereal. They pulsate and shift from abstract to representational. The subject is familiar but his portrayal is personal and insightful." Tony Carretta, New Arts Gallery, CT, USA - April 2007
“Here, sheep and horses are totemic in their appeal. Mothers and sons age and the distance between them shifts. His Franz Marc - like works are deeply sensual even as they tap into the same archetypal universe. The confectionary colours disguise a metaphysical enchantment.” Tracey O’Shaughnessy, The Republican-American, CT, USA - May 2007
