Professor Allan N. Kaufman
Born 1927 in Chicago, Illinois. Ph.D from the University of Chicago, 1953. Staff Physicist, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), 1953-1964. Professor of Physics, U.C. Berkeley (UCB), since 1965 (emeritus since 1998). Worked concurrently in the Accelerator & Fusion Research Division (AFRD) of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL).

Research has focused on basic plasma physics and related topics in nonlinear dynamics; Hamiltonian and Lagrangian formulations of nonlinear plasma dynamics, both conservative and dissipative; stability and chaotic behavior of classical and quantum systems; mode conversion and wave kinetics....
