Building a Strat
Cutting to shape on the bandsaw. It only has to be close, the rest will be routed against a template Planing to the final thickness of 1 - 3/4” Ready to be routed to shape - looking pretty. Attaching the template with double sided tape Ran into a problem here - my pattern bit isn’t long enough. I will need to order a new one. We will soon be ready for the next step, which will be to cut out the pockets for the pickups and neck. OH yeah, did I mention lots of sanding? I will start at roughly (haha) 100 grit and go to 220.
OK, so a quick trip to Woodcraft fixed that issue - got a nice pattern bit, ready to make this thing look a little like a guitar. Cutting against the template. Once done, we flip it over and run the bearing against the already shaped wood Careful around that horn, the bit can grab and toss your work. Running a 1/2” roundover bit around the perimeter, front and back Rounded over on both sides. The figure is really starting to show on this. LOTS of sanding to be done as well as a little bit of pore filling.
