I grew up on the East coast surrounded by paintings by relatives on both sides of my family. My paternal grandfather, Tran J. Mawicke (1911-1988), was an illustrator, watercolorist (AWS), and member and past president of the Society of Illustrators. My mother’s side of the family includes several noted past and present artists, including Adele Rouyon, Karen Cashman, and Lucie Kiwimagi.
After studying graphic design in college I worked in magazine and book publishing for many years as a liaison between those who focused on editorial and design, and those who implemented technology. It is only in the last several years that I have pursued my own artistic interests, through both self-guided study and formal classes.
In 2007 I turned my attention to watercolor painting, following in the footsteps of my grandfather. I am a member of the Ann Arbor Women Artists organization. I’ve been most recently honored to have one of my watercolor paintings in the 2007 Circle of Art Auction, where it raised money for Food Gatherers.
