Our Master Plan -“Live well by Doing Well”
Socrates.
The aim of our permaculture project is to:

(a) Eat well through growing our own organic vegies, eggs & chicken. Supplement this with wild rabbit and goat from the Tyack farm at Borenore and purchase raw materials that we can not produce ourselves.

(b) Reduce our ecological footprint  by living in town to reduce transport, minimize purchased food which are intensively farmed and transported, minimize energy & water usage in our home.

(c)Enjoy the financial, social & health benefits of being more self-sufficient while still being responsible for our own economic present & future. These benefits include more time as a family and active in the community, less debt, less exposure to economic shifts, more freedom and a closer attachment to nature.

(d) Educate our selves and our children to be better custodians of the earth and members of society through self-reliance and planning.

Permaculture Master Plan
Property: Forster NSW in suburban area bordering Booti National Park
Purchased: October 2002
Area: 3300 m2
Climate: Temperate/Sub-trop
Rain Fall: 1100mm
Aspect: 1:6 slope to the west
Soil: 300mm sand over clay
Other land features: Block was heavily re-vegetated with mixed natives but weeds had taken hold. Ephemeral stream runs through it.
House: Built in 1983, small 2 bed home with large verandah.
Our changes: We have added solar hot-water, insulation and ventilation, a studio & garage below, and closed in small section of verandah for 3rd bedroom. Outside we have fully fenced the yard, installed a solar powered gate, sealed the driveway, cleared lantana and other weeds, built a chook house and vegie gardens.
Utilities: Grid power, mains water & sewer, garbage & recycling service.
Future plans/dreams: Rain water-tanks, grey water recycling, grid connected solar, small orchard, expansion of vegie gardens, more energy efficiency improvements.  Maybe a goat.
