About Acme

David Burmester and a group of motivated teens founded Acme Theatre Company in 1980. This company has since created a reputation of producing on high-quality productions in the Davis community. ACME Theatre Company is proudly entering its twenty-fifth anniversary season.

Our Mission

Acme Theatre Company is an independent, self-sustaining community theatre group for young

artists of high school age. Its mission is to present plays of high literary quality while providing opportunities for young people to learn various acting and technical skills. Acme Theatre Company is an organization run entirely by the young people themselves under the direction of a small cadre of adult mentors.

Education

We are committed to ensuring that every Acme member participates in at least one technical aspect of production. Guaranteeing that the company provides an educational opportunity for young people to learn not only acting, but also technical skills.

Independence

Through the Company’s summer educational program, Acme actors and technicians instruct elementary and middle school youth in theatrical and technical skills and techniques, teaching the youth to present their own theatrical productions.

Quality

The theatrical operations of the company are accomplished entirely by the young people themselves under the direction of a small cadre of adult mentors.

    The Company is completely self-sustaining.

The company remains rigorously independent of any other organization or institution while maintaining a positive relationship with the City of Davis, the Davis Joint Unified School District, and local theatrical companies and arts organizations.

Commitment

The company will present plays of high literary quality worthy of any community theatre group, youth or adult.

Acme Theatre Company is committed to include in its repertoire theatre that promotes universal understanding and basic human rights.

Acme Theatre Company presents a minimum of three major productions each year.
