My Road Trip

So, I am erasing every thing I have ever learned about language. I do not think the experts have a clue. Since school began, Cotton has entered a new phase of language acquisition.
We are knee deep in echolalia heaven, not that you can actually understand him, but if you know what phrase, or song he is repeating, you can kind of make out the words he is trying to say. Then there are those pure moments of clear speech, that come out of nowhere. Like when he said, “I don’t want to,” and today he said “help me.” Then, just like that the words leave him, and he cannot reproduce them again.
I don’t understand what is going on in that head. But, whatever it is, we are getting some language, which is a good thing. For now, I am letting go of any rules we are suppose to follow in order to “get there”, and following my little boys lead.

Boldly Going..
