Cindy Worley, teacher at at Nunaniq School in Manokotak

“The kids are still excited about the computers. I asked today, "What do you think?" One student answered, "They are cool." The students are using them for their work.  I have a couple of students who have improved their attention in class. They are taking care of the computers and don't moan as much when I ask them to write an assignment, they immediately ask if they can type it. The computers have made a huge difference in the journalism class.

We used the computers during Captain Oefelein's voyage into space.  We researched information prior to launch then each day we watched NASA's video highlighting the astronauts and their mission.  The website was posted on the board and students came in and immediately looked up the site and watched the video on their computer.  The first one to access the site would hook to the projector and show the image on the large screen with their computer.

The senior class is developing a newshour show.  They are utilizing their computers to research local, state, national news and weather. From viewing the information they are selecting stories to cover. They are writing up newsclips over the stories. Using the video camera received with the grant, they are filming their newscast, along with commercials they are writing. They are using the camera received for still shots. They are projecting still shots from their camera to the screen as highlights while recording their newscast. The newscasts will be recorded and played for the school. Their assignments will rotate so all students in the class have a different role each week.

These are a couple of the things we are doing.”

Larry Bartman, Tech/Reading Specialist at Nunaniq School in Manokotak

“The students here at Manokotak Nunaniq School are very happy about the new computers. They have been taking very good care of them and have used them as a tool to further their education.”
