Why I wrote One Promise

Sometime in September I was asked to write about why I wrote One Promise.  I started to write something five or six different times.  Each attempt didn’t feel real until I remembered something one of my characters said in the book and it all clicked from there.
One of my characters said it best. “... life is about getting knocked down and pulling yourself back up.” It’s what we experience in this life. And whether we appreciate it or not, those moments when we are knocked down build character and make us stronger.
I don’t think I really understood why I wrote One Promise until I had written the last paragraph. We all take for granted that our neat little worlds will keep on going just as they have been until something happens, and in an instant our world changes, forever.
What inspires us to go on as we surface through the layers of grief is the strength of the human spirit, the love of those around us, and our faith in a being far greater than us all.
